Sustainability

I try to save resources and use sustainable materials as much as I can.

That means that I:

  • Minimize my clay and glaze consumption
I reclaim all unfired clay or glaze.

  • Minimize my water consumption

I clean my tools in buckets rather than under running water. After the clay/glaze in the buckets have settled, I use the clear water at the top for cleaning the floor, before disposing of it.

  • Dispose of waste in a safe way
I bring all my waste to the public waste facility, who takes care of it in a safe way. My waste consists of any pieces that break during firing and particles contained in the waste water from cleaning my floor (I catch those in a clay trap under my sink).

  • Pack my items in sustainable materials
I use paper-based packaging (wrapping paper, cardboard boxes, paper tape) and packing chips containing 75-80% of recycled polystyrene (unfortunately I cannot use packing chips made from corn starch, as they will attract rats to my workshop).

  • Use sustainable energy

I fire my kiln either on days where our own solar panels produce the electricity needed (this is mostly the case during summer) or during the times of the day where general energy consumption is low (so as to avoid contributing to Sweden having to buy from potentially less clean energy sources)
